While large run temporary FSDUs are usually cost-effective to manufacture and are easy and inexpensive to freight, in many situations there's a clear case for more permanent display solutions.
But there’s also a clear case for more permanent display solutions — particularly for heavier or premium products.
When you’re going to custom-produce a stand, it’s often worth going the extra distance and creating something truly distinctive. Plastic, wood or metal will undoubtedly cost more upfront, but when you consider lifespan, durability, and return on investment, they can often be the smarter choice.
This Whittaker's powder-coated steel stand is a great example.
We first noticed it in NW Kerikeri around October last year, positioned beside the chilled meats cabinet at the end of the frozen aisle — not the easiest environment for displays.
Initially merchandised with Christmas stock, it’s since been used to highlight new line extensions, seasonal ranges, and most recently premium gift packs for Valentine’s Day.
Its distinctive oval form stands out while staying completely on brand. And importantly, the metal construction still looks as sharp as the day it was installed, despite the humidity and temperature changes that come with freezer and chiller locations.
The bright, aqua colour Fever-Tree metal display stand at Liquorland Kerikeri tells a similar story. Placed near the front door and close to the mixer cabinet, it solves a common challenge for smaller premium brands — limited shelf facings. By introducing a custom stand for their multipacks, Fever-Tree has increased their footprint and called attention to their broad range of products.
The metal construction comfortably handles the heavier load and, again, isn’t compromised by moisture.
A different take on durability is our Mobilisar circular PVC drinks tower, which we started producing last year.
It's a modular that packs down into a medium-size box, is lightweight to transport, and can be assembled in minutes. Despite that, it’s built to last for years. And for brands prioritising sustainability, it’s made from recycled plastic and is 100% recyclable.
Temporary displays absolutely have their place. But when longevity, brand presence and repeated use matter, investing in a more permanent solution can deliver far greater value over time. Sometimes spending more upfront isn’t about extravagance — it’s about thinking longer term.
If you’re planning a launch, seasonal programme, or looking to get more from your retail footprint, we’d be happy to explore the right display solution with you — temporary or permanent. The smartest answer isn’t always the cheapest one. It’s the one that performs over time.
