POS does the heavy lifting in big box retail

At a glance, most appliances & whiteware look pretty similar - so how do you differentiate your products from other brands?

It’s the signage and labelling that stops customers in their tracks.

We’ve been doing some work in the big box retail sector recently, so we popped into Noel Leeming to see what’s catching customer attention instore.

What stood out straight away is how much the POS has to do the heavy lifting. When most appliances are similar in size, shape and colour (usually white, black or silver) it’s the signage and labelling that has to work hardest to stop shoppers in their tracks and clearly communicate product benefits.

Strut cards and product stickers create the key selling opportunity. On the surface, they look simple to produce, but there’s a lot more involved than strong messaging and good visual design.

Choosing the right substrate & print processess requires technical expertise.

In this environment, effective POS also needs to consider the practical details... choosing the right substrate and print process so pieces are cost-effective to produce, easy to apply, adhere well across different metals, glass, plastics and coated surfaces, and just as importantly, are easy for customers to remove after purchase. Getting that balance right takes a significant amount of testing and technical know-how.

Our production team brings together experienced graphic designers and print specialists who enjoy solving these kinds of challenges. It’s been great seeing their expertise applied to the unique demands of appliance labelling and retail POS.
